Don Howerton serves as the Executive Director of the United Way of the Coalfield. Don has a long career in adult education and workforce development. He worked for the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Workforce Center, which focused on implementing employer driven career pathways. Prior to joining the Kentucky Chamber, Don served as a Senior Associate for the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education. His membership with multiple workforce boards include numerous committee appointments, such as Business Services Teams, Youth Services Committees, Workforce Partners, and other regional teams. He holds a Master’s Degree from Murray State University. Don lives in Hanson with his wife, Lisa, and their two daughters, Katherine and Julia.
Administrative Assistant Danette Emery has been with the United Way of the Coalfield since February 2016. Prior to her work with United Way, she worked as executive administrative assistant for a Henderson based specialty contractor for more than two decades, where she gained experience in office administration, sales, marketing, and customer service. Her responsibilities include pledge processing, campaign data maintenance, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and preparing financial reports. Danette and her husband, Richard, were married in 2009 and currently reside in Madisonville. Danette is a church trustee, serves in the children’s ministry department, and is a musician on the worship team. In her free time she enjoys sightseeing, spending time with the grandkids, and playing Rummy with her mother.
