Don Howerton serves as the Executive Director of the United Way of the Coalfield. Don has a long career in adult education and workforce development. He worked for the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Workforce Center, which focused on implementing employer driven career pathways. Prior to joining the Kentucky Chamber, Don served as a Senior Associate for the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education. His membership with multiple workforce boards include numerous committee appointments, such as Business Services Teams, Youth Services Committees, Workforce Partners, and other regional teams. He holds a Master’s Degree from Murray State University. Don lives in Hanson with his wife, Lisa, and their two daughters, Katherine and Julia.
Dee Padgett serves as Office Manager of the United Way of the Coalfield, Deloris “Dee” Padgett is a native of South Dakota, but has lived in Hopkins County since 1969. She received her MA from Western Kentucky University. She directed the Regional Senior Citizens Center, worked in the Public Relations Department at Regional Medical Center, PADD, and then finished her full-time working career at the Hopkins County Health Department. She was instrumental in starting Hopkins County KY ASAP (Agency for Substance Abuse Prevention) and Hopkins County Crime Stoppers. She has served on numerous boards as Red Cross, YMCA and Habitat. She is active in her local church and is also a Master Gardener. She enjoys her children Ruthann and Rusty Padgett, grandchildren Melanie Tapp, Braydon and Mikaila Padgett and great-grand-daughter, Sloane Tapp.
